Ella Sheltawy is a British-Egyptian emerging artist based in London. She is a figurative painter, creating rough, expressive work with a bold immediacy.

Within her work, she aims to explore the dissonance of living within a broken system, committed to active denial, as we bare witnness to worsening humanitarian crises, disregard for international law, inequality, and climate collapse. She captures this by evoking the uncanny in her paintings, allowing hidden anxieties to surface in unexpected ways. These paintings are based on found photographic images combined intuitively through collage, sketches and imagination. She has recently curated her first exhibition, States of Uncertainty, bringing together a new group of artists on this theme.

Ella is completing a BA in Contemporary Portraiture at the Art Academy London, and has exhibited in the RA Summer Show, as well as at hARTslane and Playroom galleries.
